Where Joyful Learning Flows
Why choose Little Brook Montessori?
We provide an authentic Montessori education for children aged 2½-6 that stays true to the method developed by Italian physician and educator Dr. Maria Montessori.
This time honored, child-centered approach to education is rooted in observation and a deep understanding of how children learn and grow: through self-directed exploration in a well-prepared environment.
Our Montessori-certified teachers carefully observe and guide each child through the scope and sequence of engaging Montessori activities depending on your child’s age and level of readiness.
Here at Little Brook Montessori, our Mission is to celebrate and nurture every aspect of your child’s social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth within a vibrant and supportive environment that embraces your child’s unique journey.
We are honored to continue the mission put forth by Dr. Montessori, and we invite you to join our passionate community of learners.
What is Montessori?
The Montessori Method is a holistic approach to education based on Dr. Maria Montessori’s scientific observations of how children learn and grow. It is a child centered philosophy believing that children learn best through hands-on, purposeful activities, guided by their natural interests and abilities.
The teacher follows the child’s natural development and intellectual readiness and guides each child along their unique educational path.
Mixed aged groups of children make up an authentic Montessori classroom. A Montessori certified teacher leads the classroom where high quality Montessori educational materials can be found on the shelves. Each classroom environment will invoke an orderly, beautiful, nurturing feeling for anyone who enters it.
Our Programs
-
Inspired by Dr. Montessori’s view of young children as natural explorers, this program welcomes children turning 2 by March 1st, many of whom are experiencing their first time away from home and ready to explore a new environment.
This inviting and carefully designed classroom captivates our youngest learners with activities that spark curiosity and foster language development, social-emotional skills, motor abilities, a sense of order, and concentration — all of which build your child’s self-confidence and independence.
Our youngest students will also experience the "Grace and Courtesy" curriculum and practice social skills, which helps them forge friendships and find their place in a community outside of their family unit.
-
Dr. Montessori understood the ages between 3 and 6 years of age to be the most critical period of a child’s development, a concept that is continuously confirmed by modern science. During this time, a child’s ability to absorb information is at its peak.
In our 3-6 classroom, children come together in a mixed-age setting, reflecting Dr. Montessori’s philosophy that this dynamic mirrors family life and encourages natural interactions across age groups. This purposeful arrangement is the hallmark tenet of a Montessori Classroom as this structure fosters social, emotional, and intellectual growth, benefiting both younger and older children.
Our Montessori-certified teachers serve as guides, helping children independently navigate their classroom and choose their Montessori “work.” They carefully observe and track each child’s progress, noting their ability to function independently, communicate thoughts and emotions effectively, and succeed in specific subject areas. This thoughtful approach ensures that children are ready to advance to the next lesson at their own pace.
-
We strive to support our working families by offering an early drop off beginning at 8:00am, as well as after school care until 5:30pm.
Your child will enjoy gross motor movement involving music & dance, yoga, as well as quieter activities like arts & crafts. These supervised hours also include an element of unstructured play on the playground or indoor play space.
Our Story
Little Brook Montessori flows from a shared passion for children, early childhood education, and the Montessori Method.
Co-founders Laura Newman and Mary Clarke met in the most fitting of places — a local Montessori preschool where Laura’s younger daughter was a student in Mary’s classroom.
Little Brook Montessori school stands today as a testament to their shared belief in the wonders that reveal themselves in a preschool classroom. Together they work to create a nurturing environment where young minds flourish, curiosity thrives, the seeds of lifelong learning are planted, and wonders abound.
